Location: Chancellors Conference Centre, Manchester

This event launched a new forum for the exchange of experience and best practice between the managers and technical staff from UK data centres and universities who are are responsible for research data management.

Run by the Digital Curation Centre in association with the RIN, the themes explored at this workshop included:

  • the future shape of the research data management community
  • providing appropriate skills and effort for data curation.

Membership of the forum is open and includes representatives from national and governmental agencies with responsibility for the promotion and delivery of techniques, standards and expertise for digital curation.

The forum is designed to operate at a practical level, with a focus on issues arising from technical practice and service delivery. It is expected to provide a conduit for encouraging interoperability through the use of common standards and terminology, as well as a medium for addressing such organisational imperatives as the maintenance of appropriate skills amongst research data curators, producers and users.

A programme of this event, along with speaker presentations are available on the DCC’s website.

A briefing explaning the background and rational to the forum is available below.
