UKRR: call for expressions of interest for mediation panel members

Added by Sarah on 07 August 2009 10:21

The UKRR is seeking senior library professionals to take part in its mediation panel.

Crucial to the governance of the UK Research Reserve (UKRR) is the Mediation Panel. The Panel will negotiate solutions when difficulties arise in identifying suitable holding libraries for the two ‘last copies’ of a particular journal which are due to be kept in higher education libraries (one copy will still always be held by the British Library).

As an engaged but disinterested stakeholder, SCONUL has been asked to recruit people to serve on the Mediation Panel. In order to achieve efficiency and impartiality the Panel will consist of at least one library director, or senior person involved in collection management, from the following types of library:

  • a library participating in the UKRR initiative and in membership of Research Libraries UK,
  • a large library not as yet participating in the initiative, and
  • a smaller library

The Chair of SCONUL will chair the Panel, and the Secretary of SCONUL and Frances Boyle, the UKRR Manager will also be members. See the UKRR’s website for more general information or telephone Frances Boyle 020 7594 206 for more detail about the Panel and the role.

The Panel will meet quarterly (provisional proposed) and the terms of reference are available below. It will act when appropriate holding libraries do not emerge naturally during the UKRR’s processes. The success of the initiative will depend significantly on the Panel’s careful judgements and negotiations.

If you are interested, please email toby.bainton@sconul.ac.uk explaining both your personal interest and appropriate professional experience.

Closing date for expressions of interest is is 18 September 2009.
