The Centre for Communication Systems Research (CCSR) is probably the UK’s largest academic research centre in Mobile and Satellite Communication Systems. Established for over a decade as one of a number of autonomous research centres at the University of Surrey, it now houses over 100 researchers, many being PhD students.

Their research is focused on future communication systems including mobile/wireless communications, satellite communications, multimedia systems, networking, and media applications/service. Their research is sub-divided into three main research groups – Mobile Communications, I-Lab Multimedia and DSP (Digital Signal Processing), and Networks. This has the potential to be the source for independent review of the scholarly communications system’s performance in the UK, providing the key information to develop the system into the future.
