Springer Open Choice initiative allows authors to decide how their articles are published in the Springer journals: Springer Open Choice is available for articles submitted to the majority of its journals.

Choosing open access means making your journal article freely available in exchange for the payment of an open access publication fee. If authors choose open access in the Springer Open Choice program, they will not be required to transfer their copyright. The final published version of all articles can be archived in institutional or funder repositories and can be made publicly accessible immediately. Further, in June 2010, an analysis of the Open Choice articles published by Springer in 2009 showed that over 30 journals published a significant enough share of paid open access articles in 2009 that they stated they were reflecting this in these journals’ 2011 subscription prices. This page allows access to their Copyright and Open Access License and information for researchers as to how they can order Open Choice from Springer.
