This factsheet explains the basics of the dual support system and summarises recent moves to ensure the full costs of research are funded and to reform the research assessment system.

It is the first in a new series of briefings aimed at providing clear and accessible information on key issues relevant to everyone involved in the research information landscape. We hope that, as a series, they will help address gaps in understanding between researchers, higher education institutions, research funders, librarians, publishers.

It has been produced in support of the RIN’s mission, which is to enhance, sustain and broaden the understanding of the use of research information resources and services by promoting the development of effective policies and strategies for the bene?t of the UK research community.

We hope the factsheet is a useful resource for you, your colleagues or users. If you would like further information or to receive more copies, please email catherine.gray@rin.ac.uk
